What is it? :<\/strong>\u00a0Menisci are thin C-shaped pads at the intersection of our two largest bones in the knee region. These can be torn due to sudden traumas, sudden force loads on one knee or due to degeneration and cartilage damage in older age groups.<\/p>\n Clinical :<\/strong>\u00a0Sounds coming from the knee may be the first finding. Findings include strain and swelling, pain, fluid collection, limitation of joint movement, and locking in the knee.<\/p>\n In diagnosis, examination, special tests for meniscus, radiography, MR are important.<\/p>\n Treatment :<\/strong>\u00a0Following an acute knee trauma, conservative treatment is performed until diagnosis is made. The knee with the problem is taken to resting. Anti-inflammatory and pain reliever medicine are given, cold is applied. Knee is bandaged and the knee is kept at height. If complaints such as repetitive pain, continuous fluid collection, locking are continuing following the initial treatment, surgical removal of the menisci, i.e. menisectomy or stitching, can be performed. Today, arthroscopic surgery is mostly performed on meniscal tears. In arthroscopic surgery, the meniscus tears in the meniscus-uninfected region, only the torn part is arthroscopically removed. It is important that the orthopedic surgeon is experienced in this surgery.
